A friend pointed me to a location at White Rock lake i hardly set foot in where he found a pair of Eared Grebe in beautiful breeding color. Few trips later and on a calmed water morning, i came close to few of them cruising the shoreline and they are rather tamed.
While not in full breeding color yet, this grebe already shows striking summer plumage with golden yellow tufts and chestnut flanks. There are at least six birds there but only this individual exhibits deeper breeding plumage. Getting low on this location is quite a challenge but i wouldn’t have it any other ways – Go low or Go home!
