Return to the Great Horned Owl nest at north Forth Worth park trail checking on the owlets this week and one of the little white fuzzball is apparently missing. Well, they are little no more and grow like weeds in a short two weeks. Another week or so, this pair will start branching. I met a keen birder at the trail and was told one of the owlets fell. It survived the fall, wondered around but didn’t make it back to the nest.
The black feather object beneath one of the left owlet is a fresh kill, presumably an American coot judging by the fine feather, size and stilt-like legs. The picture was taken around mid day, beamer was used to lit the harsh shadow on the birds
